As previously advised the trip will be with the assistance of JMG Travel, one of the leading tour operators of the Scottish mainland. Travel by luxury coach and P&O Ferries with the services of a Blue Badge Guide throughout.
Dates: 20th to 25th May 2018.
Accommodation:
The group will be accommodated in the elegant Doubletree by Hilton Dunblane-Hydro 4* Hotel, which offers a Jacuzzi, an indoor pool, sauna and spa.
Provisional itinerary:
This will include many heritage, historic and archaeological sites as follows:
- Edinburgh Castle, St. Gile’s Cathedral & Royal Mile.
- Trip along the shores of Loch Lomond to visit the planned town of Inveraray and the neo-gothic castle, home of the current Duke of Argyll.
- Stirling Town, the Wallace Monument and Famous Grouse Scottish brewery.
- The mysterious and magical Rosslyn chapel which featured in the finale of Dan Brown’s ‘Da Vinci Code’ which Tom Hanks described as ‘all one could imagine or hope for’.
- Travel to the Scottish borders to Dryburgh Abbey, a medieval ruin of exceptional ecclesiastical architecture together with the burial grounds which includes the final resting place of Sir Walter Scott and Field Marshal Douglas Haig.
Costs:
- Coach travel and hotel accommodation @ €680 per person sharing with a single room supplement of €185 for the 5 nights.
- Incidentals such as entry fees, refreshments and lunches etc in the order of €155.
All bookings and request for information should be addressed to the Honorary Secretary, Bernadette Doyle, who will liaise with JMG Travel in all matters in relation to the trip.
Payments due are as follows:
5 January 2018 = €200 deposit per person.
23 February 2018 = €480 per person sharing or €665 in the case of single supplement.
30 March 2018 = €160 per person for incidentals.
Note:
- Please note that hotels in the UK are not as flexible as Irish hotels and they demand non-refundable payment in advance. Therefore, members should activate their own travel insurance to protect themselves against any unforeseen cancellation.
- Members should ensure that they have an up-to-date European Health Insurance Card (formerly Form E111) which covers healthcare for Irish people visiting other EU member countries.
