The County Kildare Archaeological Society is to embark on a most ambitious trip to Scotland next year by popular request.

The trip will be under the guidance of JMG Travel, one of the leading tour operators of the Scottish mainland and will take place between 20 – 25 May 2018 by luxury coach. The group will be accommodated in the specially chosen modern and elegant Doubletree by Hilton Dunblane-Hydro 4-star Hotel, which offers a Jacuzzi, an indoor pool, sauna and spa.

Following an intensive recce by the President and Honorary Secretary an itinerary has more or less been agreed and this will include many heritage and historic sites specifically selected to fit the health and fitness level of our members. These will include; Edinburgh, a trip along the shores of Loch Lomond with views of the Trossachs National Park, a visit to the Highlands to take in the planned town of Inveraray and visit the neo-gothic castle the home of the Duke of Argyll, a tour of Stirling, a visit to the Scottish borders to Dryburgh Abbey a medieval ruin of fine ecclesiastical architecture and a visit to the magical Rosslyn chapel.

While final costs have not been worked out for incidentals such as entry fees and lunches etc, however, JMG Travel have negotiated an all-in price for the coach travel and hotel accommodation @ €680 per person sharing with a single room supplement of €185 for the 5 nights.

It should be noted that hotels in the UK are not as flexible as Irish hotels and booking and payment will be demanded very soon. In this regard, we will be advising that members booking the trip should activate their travel insurance to cover any unplanned cancellation. Please note that a number of members have already booked with the Secretary as places will be limited.
